1. Locate the Radiator
Open the hood and identify the radiator near the front of the car.
Find the radiator cap labeled "coolant" or similar for later use.
2. Drain the Radiator
Place a drain pan under the radiator.
Open the drain valve or loosen the hose clamp to let coolant flow out.
Let it drain for about 10 minutes or until only a slow drip remains.
3. Flush the Radiator
Reattach the hose or close the valve.
Remove the radiator cap and fill it with distilled water.
Run the engine for 10-15 minutes to flush out debris.
Drain the radiator again, disposing of the old coolant safely.
4. Add Fresh Coolant
Check the owner’s manual for coolant capacity.
Fill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water or use premixed coolant.
Add coolant to the overflow tank if needed and check for leaks while running the engine.
5. Top Off Coolant
Turn off the engine and add coolant to the overflow tank, stopping a couple of inches below the service line.
Pro Tip: Dispose of old coolant responsibly at a hazardous waste facility or auto shop. Keep it away from kids and pets as it’s toxic.
